Clove! not just for Holiday cookies and making the house smell nice. Since 200 BCE we have seen clove be used for a variety of uses from freshening the breath to meet the Emperor, to preserving and adding flavor to food, and all the way to pharmaceutical purposes in clinics and dental offices. For our uses and information, I will be focusing on the topical purpose of clove.
Since the 19th century dentists used Clove oil to help reduce toothache pain. This is because clove has a local anesthetic and antiseptic effect that helps numb pain. In recent research it was also discovered that clove has antibacterial, antifungal, and antioxidant properties.
It is with this in mind that clove is one of the essential oils we add into our anti-inflammatory cream. Its many uses helps decrease pain and inflammation in the tissue.
